Are you too bothered by Twitter’s update of adding random users tweets to your notifications? I can’t tell you how much that irritated me. Over twenty followers posting random messages. I didn’t want to unfollow any people as I always follow back, but I couldn’t take the alerts! I want to decide who I see and who I don’t, just like with Facebook. But there appeared to be no answer to this problem anywhere I looked. Every solution was the wrong one. Many had simple suggestions pertaining to turning off Twitter alerts all together. I don’t know about you, but I want certain alerts. And turning them off all together would be just as pointless as not even having the application installed at all. I simply had to find a way around this.
So here’s what I worked out for myself on how to remove these random notifications. On your iPhone, go to the Twitter application, and click on the word “Me.” At the bottom click the gear icon just above your tweets. Now click on the word “Settings”. At the top where you see the word “Accounts” and your name along with your Twitter username, click that. There is an arrow you may not even notice, I know I didn’t. I thought clicking that would lead to me signing out or offering to change my name or log into another account. In this area you can set everything you want to be bothered with notification wise.
Pay special attention to the “Tweets” at the top where it shows the number of people, click that. Now remove everyone in there as those are the random people Twitter added. You may notice that there are some glitches when removing those people listed there. I had to click and remove ten then go back and I was able to remove the rest.
I also turned off favorites, recommendations, news, alerts and other.
I don’t think Twitter made this application user-friendly at all, and adding random people just made it downright irritating! I would have never guessed that the location to turn off those random people was in that location. I was left for the first couple of days after the update going to the users profile and turning off mobile notifications. I had a huge chunk of them already randomly removed before I figured this out. I hope this helps you out, and I hope Twitter doesn’t change things, so we have to go hunting again!
